IGP to be sent on compulsory leave?

Despite being requested by the President Maithripala Sirisena to resign , the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has told media that so far he has not decided to resign.

A private television network reported this during their news telecast.

The IGP has been accused of not taking necessary action when he had been warned of a possible attack by National Thawheed Jamaat and an investigation is underway on this regard. It has been reported that there is a plan to send the IGP on compulsory leave until the conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile,according the constitution of Sri Lanka even though the President has the authority to appoint the IGP has does not possess the authority to remove him from the position.
