Airport workers involved in a liquor racket

Airport sources say that a racket is underway to sell liquor at higher rates at the duty-free shopping complex at the Katunayake airport.

It is said that this racket has increased with the commencement of the festive season.

According to sources, some state officials who provide essential services to the airport as well as employees of the airport itself are also involved in this racket.

For example, they purchased a Vat 69 bottle of whiskey at a price of 3,100 rupees and later sold it at 4,200 rupees at the airport itself.

It is said that they traffic these liquor stocks to outlets operating in remote areas in Sri Lanka using vehicles.
