President & SLFP absent from opposition's Kandy rally

The first of the series of rallies to be held by the opposition against the current government's line of action began today ( March 08) in Kandy under the patronage of opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It is reported that no representative from Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has participated in the rally as a decision was made at the SLFP organizers' meeting ,held under the patronage of the President, to not participate in this rally.

According to C News, even though United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP S. B Dissanayake has expressed his strong desire to participate in the rally, the President has stated that respecting the party decision nobody will participate in the event.

Commenting on this regard SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara has stated that they will take proper combined actions after SLFP establishes an alliance by bringing all opposition powers together including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

SLPP representatives and several other party leaders connected to joint opposition participated in the rally today.
