SIS chief to be promoted

It is reported that the Police Commission has decided to promote head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Nilantha Jayawardena to the position of Senior DIG.

Accordingly, he will be the youngest DIG in the police history.

He is an old boy of Nalanda College, Colombo and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, a Business Management Postgraduate Degree and a Diploma in Conflict Resolution.

The cabinet of ministers had decided to terminate the services of the head of the FCID, Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara, who was serving subject to a contract period during recent months and the decision to promote Nilantha Jayawardena came into effect in this juncture.

Ravi Waidyalankara retired on May 14, 2018 and, considering that his qualifications to serve as a senior DIG, the vacancy that was prevailing, he was given a one-year service extension from June 19, 2018, to March 30, 2019 according to a Cabinet Decisions.

However, the media had reported that the Presidential had produced a cabinet paper to terminate the service of Ravi Waidyalankara to provide an opportunity to  Nilantha Jayawardena as he had fulfilled due qualifications by 23rd of February 2019 to be Senior DIG.
