Tea land blocked out & sold in central hills Featured

Reports say tea land is increasingly being blocked out and sold in the central hills.

Although the practice is banned, racketeers are blocking out more and more land located off main roads in Welimada, Nuwara Eliya, Bandarawela and Badulla.

Environmentalists say the blocked out land is sold at high prices.

Since tea cultivation is becoming unprofitable, more land is being taken up for the construction of hotels and lodges as well.
