Probe on into Wanathawilluwa training camp Featured

There is suspicion that a camp raided by the CID and the STF in an secluded area near the Puttalam lagoon at Mangalapura in Wanathawilluwa four nights ago belongs to an extremist group.

Four suspects were taken into custody along with nearly 100 kg of explosives, around 100 detonators, wire cords, 120 litres of the banned nitrate, a 12-bore weapon with ammunition, dry rations and two large tents.

The place was found by chance, as the CID and the STF teams were searching for two absconding suspects in the vandalizing of Buddha statues in Mawanella.

Investigators are looking into the motives for running the camp and also if those involved are linked to any political party.
