There are plans by a group in the party and several organizations loyal to the government to field speaker Karu Jayasuriya as the UNP’s candidate at the next presidential election, ‘Ravaya’ reports.
Jayasuriya has not commented on the matter.
At the same time, the UNP has said Ranil Wickremesinghe would be their candidate.
Also, deputy leader Sajith Premadasa is being suggested by his supporters, although he is yet to declare if he will contest.
