‘JVP who steered to the left, back to racism’ – Wickramabahu (video) Featured

The JVP who had steered toward the left during the illegal struggle of the former President to gain power, has once again embarked on a racist path, said a Left party leader who was part of the struggle.

The New Sama Samaja Party leader said that the JVP who tried to justify their armed conflict in 1987 when a power sharing constitution was introduced, claiming to be patriots, are now trying to bring their racist history to the fore.

Addressing the media in Colombo Wickramabahu Karunaratne said that the Left should be prepared to face this situation.

Wickramabahu warned that President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa are trying to sabotage the power sharing constitution, urging Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to forge ahead against all obstacles.

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake had justified his party’s support for a war a week ago by claiming to take all action against the threat to divide the country.

The JVP leader had noted that they had obtained the assistance of the judiciary in 2006 to separate the North from the East.

However, JVP-MP Bimal Ratnayake accepted in parliament that war crimes were committed during the war in the North which was launched with the assistance of the JVP.
