ITN crisis ends: President's representative appointed CEO

Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera has taken measures to appoint President Maithripala Sirisena’s representative E.V.P. Rasa Harischandra as the CEO of Independent Television Network (ITN).

Accordingly, it is reported that the employee stand-off would end with this appointment.

The letter issued by Minister Samaraweera for the appointing of the new CEO states :

A tense situation had prevailed at the ITN premises since January 7th afternoon and the police and riot police had to be called in to control the situation.

The employees had protested when two deputy general managers had attempted to enter the premises. The ITN employees had been protesting for several days alleging that a large amount of the ITN fixed deposits had been defrauded.

Measures had also been taken to suspend 13 of the protestors who are facing corruption allegations.
