500 mental patients without custodians Featured

The Mental Health Institute at Angoda is keeping around 500 patients, 350 women among them, whose custodians have refused to accept them.

These patients include those who have gained normalcy to a certain extent and those who cannot be looked after at homes.

Some custodians had given false addresses when admitting the patients.

Since the hospital is unable to undertake their welfare on its own, private organizations and individuals have come forward to assist.

One of the organizations is supplying coffins for the funerals of the patients who die and the hospital staff conducts the last rites.
