They pointed out that already there are around 15 liquor shops in the Vavuniya town and in such a situation, the government had permitted another liquor shop to be opened at this location.
They said that currently there are around seven liquor shops in the vicinity of the Vavuniya old bus stand.
The other establishments in the locality are the Vavuniya District Secretariat, Hospital, many state institutions and many private residences and the women’s groups condemned the action taken by the government to issue another liquor license. They condemned the government for having issued this license at a time when pledges had been given to curb the alcohol and drug menace in the country.
Therefore, these organizations warned that they would organize many protests until action has been taken to close down this liquor shop.
