Gampaha hospital writes to President

A letter was sent to President Maithripala Sirisena with the signatures of over 900 staff members, representing every division of the hospital, requesting that the Gampaha District General Hospital be taken under the Central Government.

The Gampaha district has the highest population, but the facilities at this hospital which comes under the Western Provincial Council, is at a very pathetic level. Hence, the hospital staff has urged the President to acquire this hospital under the Central Government and improve its facilities to a developed state.

The letter states that the Gampaha district has produced national leaders such as Presidents, Prime Ministers, Speakers and ministers and is among the top 10 hospital with the highest patient admissions and as such to take over the hospital under the central government and develop it.

The hospital also lacks a permanent Director over the past five years and the hospital administration activities have halted. Further, the hospital CT Scanner, MRI scanner and Hormone testing machine are all dysfunctional and even the laboratory and operation theatre facilities are at a very primitive level, the letter states.

Therefore, the hospital staff urged the President to take this hospital under the central government and improve its facilities on par with other leading hospitals in the country for the welfare of the people.
