The newspaper further says :
They are urging the court to issue a writ of quo warranto stating that the group of MPs led by Mahinda Rajapaksa, are not legally capable of holding MP seats after obtaining the membership of the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP).
The MPs are of the view that they need to seek legal redress to abolish the MP posts of the pro-Rajapaksa group as this group has the protection of president Maithripala Sirisena.
This is not a party decision but a decision taken by a group of MPs who had sought legal advice on this matter.
Although the SLFP has already decided that disciplinary action should be taken against MPs and public representative who had split from the party, the newspaper had inquired whether the actual measures and the persons who will face them are finalised.
To this, a CC member of the SLFP had said that these will be decided at the next party CC meeting.
He also added that measures are likely to be taken only against SLFP members who joined the government and not against those who had joined the SLPP.
