The working committee had unanimously approved Ranil Wickremesinghe as the leader of the UNP for the next year, with Sajith Premadasa and Ravi Karunanayake as Deputy Leaders.
The rest of the officials of the party for the next year would be appointed by the party leadership shortly.
This approval was granted subsequent to the working committee meeting of the UNP which was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Sirikotha UNP headquarters in Pitakotte.
The proposal to establish the National Democratic Front was presented by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It was also decided to call a special meeting at the party headquarters on December 27 to discuss the manner in which the new coalition constitution should be prepared.
The topic of discussion at the central committee meeting had been on the parties that would be joining the coalition for the protection of the country’s democracy.
