Chandrika behind plans to change SLFP membership Featured

There are moves to change the leadership of the SLFP through amendments to the party constitution, ‘Aruna’ reports.

The plan is to submit it as a proposal by party leaders before its submission to the central committee.

After many SLFP MPs obtained membership of the SLPP, 14 SLFP MPs met president Maithripala Sirisena and requested permission, before December 04 when the SLFP holds is special convention, to liaise with the UNP to resolve the political stalemate.

Ex-president Chandrika Kumaratunga is said to be behind this.

She has the backing of a majority in the SLFP central committee.

Part of the plan is to raise a voice against the present party membership at the special convention.
