Fertilizer not available at reduced prices Featured

The Maha cultivation season has begun, but farmers are yet to be provided with the required fertilizer, Aruna quotes their organizations as saying.

The season meetings of farmers have not taken place and there is no fertilizer available at the reduced prices as announced by new prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He brought down the price to Rs. 500 per 50 kg sack for paddy and to Rs. 1.000 for other crops.

When contacted, director of the Fertilizer Secretariat Ajith Pushpakumara said there were adequate stocks in both the state and private sector.

The delay is due to having to take stocks before releasing any additionally required stocks, he said.
