27 plant, animal species harm environment Featured

Twenty seven invader plant and animal species that harm Sri Lanka’s environment have been identified.

They include Kata Kalu Bovitiya, Gal Goraka, Pichcha Batu, Keth Palu, Hestum and Ulex.

However, the list does not include the pines and acacia plant species.

Especially the central hills and the wet zone have fallen prey to these plants and animals.

Environmentalists say the harm from microorganisms was worse, but that that is yet to be researched on.

Several mollusk and fish species that create environmental imbalance have also been identified.
