TNA to meet today

The TNA says they would meet today to discuss the prevailing political crisis in the country.

Speaking to 'BBC Sandeshaya', TNA leader R. Sampanthan has said that they had requested the Speaker to convene parliament, not in support of any party, but because it is parliament that should take a final decision on the matter.

"Parliamentarians are leaders elected by the public... We made this request because it is parliament that should take a final decision... We have called to uphold a right of parliament... As opposition leader, I should act to secure the rights of MPs," he had added.

As a party leaders' meeting too cannot be convened when parliament has been prorogued, an unofficial meeting of party leaders would be held under the auspices of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today.
