BoC chairman refuses to resign Featured

The chairman of the Bank of Ceylon has refused to resign as per a presidential order as part of measures to restructure the director boards of state banks, ‘Deshaya’ reports.

The State Enterprise Ministry has informed former deputy secretary of the Treasury Sujatha Cooray that she would be given the chairmanship only on a recommendation by the Central Bank about her suitability.

Former ministry secretary Dr. Damitha de Soyza has turned down an offer to be chairman of the Bank of Ceylon.

|In the meantime, Hemasiri Fernando promptly left his position as the chairman of the People’s Bank and was appointed chairman of the Board of Investment.
