State Media taken under the President! Featured

The President has decided to take all state media under his purview until a subject minister is appointed, it is reported. This decision was taken due to the unrest at these institutions last night.

When news of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s appointment as PM was released, some SLPP supporters had taken over control of these institutions and a group of employees at ITN had also been chased off.

Meanwhile, even outsiders loyal to the SLPP had also entered these institutions.

STF deployed

Meanwhile, when Mangala Samaraweera, Ranjith Maddumabandara, Rajitha Senaratne and Chathura Senaratne together with the IGP and the head of the STF had gone to Rupavahini Corporation last night, a group had surrounded the place with MP Prasanna Ranaweera and abused the above group in foul language.

However, they were taken out safely with the intervention of the security forces.

Subsequently, STF protection was deployed to all state media institutions.
