Complaint to IG on Rishad assassination plot

Despite details of a plot hatched by former DIG Nalaka Silva, Namal Kumara and French resident Thushara Peiris to assassinate Commerce and Industries Minister Rishad Bathiudeen being exposed, the Prime Minister nor the Law and Order Minister had taken any steps to address this issue, said the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Rural Economic Activities M.S.S. Ameer Ali.

He said this addressing the media after complaining to the IG today (23) seeking an investigation into these revelations.

Deputy Minister Ali said, “We complained about this matter to the Prime Minister and the Law and Order Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara but no action was taken. Hence we decided to lodge a complaint to the IGP. We are suspicious about these French residents getting involved in these plots. The end aim is to stir up communal discord. Rishad Bathiudeen is the leader of our party All Ceylon Makkal Congress and their plan was to assassinate him and blame it on the Tamils stirring racial tensions between the Muslims and Tamils. Their voice recordings are proof of that.

To date former SLMC leader Ashraf’s death is a mystery. The government’s intervention in investigating this plot is totally inadequate. Despite our minister facing so much danger, his security has not been beefed up, despite our requests. We feel that there is a connection between the Theldeniya clashes and these telephone conversations. A proper investigation would reveal all these details.”

Meanwhile, Western Provincial Councilor Mohommed Faiz said they are expecting that this government would ensure justice, warning that if this situation escalates further, the government would have to be concerned about the security of the Prime Minister and President as well.

Therefore he asked that the former DIG Nalaka Silva be taken into custody without delay and a proper investigation be launched.
