Govt. cannot go on like this any longer – UNP backbenchers Featured

A group of UNP backbenchers are to propose that in the event the present administration fails to take forward good governance policies, the party should form a government of its own, or allow the president to have a government to his liking.

Their proposal will be submitted to the party’s parliamentary group meeting later today (22), MP Chaminda Wijesiri has told ‘Mawbima.’

Some of the remarks attributed to president Maithripala Sirisena at the instigation of those who oppose the coalition government are a serious threat to its continuation, he said, adding the president should accept full responsibility if the government collapsed.

He called for an immediate end to the SLFP’s habit of taking all the credit and placing all the blame on the UNP.

The president should understand that the people want to see the two main parties rule the country with unity, with around 18 months remaining for key elections.
