At yesterday’s cabinet meeting, president Maithripala Sirisena has not mentioned any involvement of an Indian intelligence service in an alleged plot to assassinate him, says the President’s Media Division.
In a statement, the PMD refers to local and international media reports that quoted the president as saying that RAW was involved in the alleged plot.
It says the alleged plot came up at the meeting, and the president emphasized the need to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegation.
Meanwhile, president Sirisena had a cordial telephone conversation with Indian prime minister Narendra Modi this afternoon.
Modi said the firm friendship and cordiality between the two countries would be strengthened further.
President Sirisena commended India’s constant support as a close friend and neighbor towards Sri Lanka’s development and success.
