Coalition govt. : JO to decide on Oct. 09 Featured

Parliamentarians of the Joint Opposition have been summoned to the residence of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna chairman - Prof. G.L. Peiris on Oct. 09 to discuss the proposal tabled over forming a coalition government, reports say.

Attendance of JO members has been deemed mandatory for this special discussion, which is to be chaired by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, sources say. The discussion is to be followed by a dinner, reports add.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rajapaksa has summoned the SLPP provincial councillors' collective to the party office at Nelum Mawatha tomorrow (06).

Condition to appoint MR as Prime Minister?
A proposal to form a coalition government was recently tabled before Mr. Rajapaksa by S.B. Dissanayake, a member of the 15 SLFP MPs who quit the government.

Both parties have held several rounds of discussion on this regard and the JO has reportedly laid down a condition that President Maithripala Sirisena should appoint appoint Mr. Rajapaksa as the Prime minister before tabling proposals for the 2019 Budget.
