Britto Fernando accuses Catholic Church (video) Featured

The Catholic Church stands accused of remaining tight-lipped over the alleged disappearance of Catholic fathers who surrendered to the military during the war and those who were killed and made to disappear during the 1989 insurgency in the south.

Ceylonnews quotes president of the families of missing persons association Britto Fernando as saying that only the local and foreign human rights activists were raising a voice on behalf of those victims.

Fernando also strongly condemns a remark made by Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith with regard to human rights and describes as ‘a good answer’ a response made by minister Mangala Samaraweera to the remark.

According to Fernando, Sri Lanka would not have experienced three insurgencies had there been human rights in the Catholic Church.

He recalls that the Archbishop was a member of the delegation that went to the EU when it threatened to revoke the GSP plus export concession over human rights allegations during the Rajapaksa regime.
