Nalaka de Silva to be quizzed over missing sniper rifle Featured

EXCLUSIVE - Head of the TID, DIG Nalaka de Silva is to be questioned over the disappearance of a sniper rifle, say police headquarters sources.

This sniper rifle had been in the custody of the DIG after it was seized from the home of one ‘Master’ at Serunuwara.

That detection was made on the basis of revelation made by a person identified as ‘Atha Kota’ during interrogation.

He was taken after he fled during a raid by Oddusudan police earlier this year in which several youths were arrested with hand grenades.

The sniper rifle was seized by TID Inspector Jayasundara and sergeant Nandasena.

Not included as evidence

However, it had not been included as material evidence.

The joint opposition raised in parliament the disappearance of the weapon while the media reported a conspiracy to kill president Maithripala Sirisena and former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

However, a senior police official told Sri Lanka Mirror that there was no truth to the reports about a disappearance of a sniper weapon.
