Buddhist monks including Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera and archeological officers were present.
Police was ordered to hand over a comprehensive report on the archeological value of the location and the case is to be taken up again on Oct. 01.
The issue was raised on Sep. 04, when Northern Provincial Councillors - T. Raviharan and Kandaiya Sirveshvaran and residents had protested against Buddhist monks and archeological officers who arrived at the location for renovations.
According to archeological officers, the site, known in ancient times as Kurundavashoka Viharaya, was the location of an ancient Buddhist Temple. The Temple dates back to the early years of the Anuradhapura kingdom.
