Doctors takes train accident victim to Sweden (pics)

The six-year-old victim of the train accident in the Panrikeidakulam area in Omanthai, Vavuniya on September 16, Kamalanathan Jessica, who was receiving treatment at the Vavuniya hospital, was taken to Sweden yesterday (24) by a team of Swedish doctors.

The team of doctors from Sweden had flown from Katunayake to Vavuniya by helicopter, based on an appeal made by her relatives and taken charge of the child from the Vavuniya hospital.

The team, who took the child by helicopter to Katunayake, flew to Singapore where she would be treated and taken back to Sweden.

The girl’s mother 30-year-old Kamalanathan Sivaranjana was killed in the accident while her 34-year-old father James Kamalanathan who was injured in the accident is currently receiving treatment at the Jaffna hospital.

The group who are citizens of Sweden had come to Sri Lanka on holiday and had been on their way from Jaffna Delft to visit relatives in Vavuniya, Panrikeidakulam when their car had collided with the Jaffna – Matara train.

Four persons were killed in the crash including 56-year-old Issai Gnanawathie Yogaratnam, 30-year-old Kamalanathan Sivaranjana, 32-year-old Kandeepan Yamuna and 13-year-old Kandeepan Disalani.

 Three persons including 34-year-old James Kamalanathan, six-year-old Kamalanathan Jessica, seven-year-old kandeepan Dharshikan and the 53-year-old driver Muttiah Ganapathi sustain injuries in the accident.

The Vavuniya hospital sources said that in addition to Jessica’s external injuries, she is suffering from severe mental trauma.
