Bees to drive elephants away Featured

The use of bee could be a successful way of driving away wild elephants who invade villages, says a Sri Lankan professor at the Sheffield Hallam University in the UK.

Prof I.M. Dharmadasa, who leads university’s Electronic Materials and Solar Energy Group, made a remark at a function at Kaduruwewa primary school in Galgamuwa, where he received his primary education.

He said bee keeping is a money earner as well as a successful method to drive elephants away, as in African countries including Kenya.

It is enough to have three bee hive boxes per home, he said, adding the bees will bite the elephants in their eyes, ears and drive them away.
