Army distributes water to Killinochchi residents (pics)

The Killinochchi Security Forces officers have commenced a programme to provide water to residents in the region who are affected by the prevailing severe drought in the area.

The residents of Killinochchi and Bharathipuram are having great difficulty obtaining drinking water and under the directions of the Killinochchi Security Forces Headquarters Commander Major General Nishshanka Ranawana, drinking water is being distributed among the affected people.

9 Vijayabahu Infantry (VIR) troops of the 571 Brigade of the 57 Division in Baratheepuram under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), using water bowsers provided water to the drought-hit civilians and school children at the Baratheepuram School and Annaisaradha Kanista Vidyalaya.

According to the District Disaster management Centre officers, around 100,000 families are affected due to the severe drought experienced in the Killinochchi, Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mulaithivu and Mannar districts.
