2 ancient stone pillars with inscriptions in Trinco face ruin Featured

Two ancient stone pillars with inscriptions, located at the entrance to the Dutch Fort in Trincomalee, are facing ruin after getting painted from time to time.

It is said that the inscriptions using Tamil letters but in the Telugu language are a prediction by Maha Rishi Subha Dishta that the Koneswaram Kovil would be destroyed by the Dutch and that it would not be rebuilt.

History says that after the Kovil and Gokanna Temple were destroyed by the Dutch, the two stone pillars, among 1,000 pillars of the Kovil, were erected at the entrance to the Fort.

The two pillars are also threatened by passing heavy vehicles, but no responsible authority has paid any attention to their condition.
