The arrest was made this morning (03) and the suspect is to be handed over to the Customs for further questioning.
The move follows talks held by the Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera with the heads of the CID and Customs to detect persons smuggling in goods such as gold and cigarettes with the aid of some Customs officers.
Accordingly, CID detectives and Customs officials in civilian clothes have been deployed at the airports and ports to arrest smugglers.
