CID ready to arrest former Navy Commander

The CID notified Court today(29) that former Navy Commander, current Chief of Defence Staff Ravindra Wijegunawardena would be taken into custody for aiding and abating suspect Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi alias ‘Navy Sampath’ to be in hiding.

The CID notified the Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne when the case over the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths was taken up and suspect Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi who is in remand custody was produced in court.

The CID told court that the former Navy Commander would have to be arrested for having provided facilities to Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi to remain in hiding.

Therefore, the Magistrate had ordered the CID to immediately take action against the CDS, while Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi alias navy Sampath was ordered to be remanded until September 12.
