‘Divaina’ quotes a spokesman for the AG’s department as having said that legal action against Maheswaran has been considered over a remark made by her.
Police have received several complaints that she has told a public meeting that the LTTE should be revived to prevent incidents of rapes in the north.
A police investigation report was referred to the AG recently, which was studied by a team led by the additional solicitor general.
Speaker yet to receive any intimation
When contacted, a senior official at the office of the speaker said they were yet to receive any intimation from the AG’s Dept.
He said that appropriate steps could be taken once the AG informed the speaker if Maheswaran’s remarks amounted to a violation of the constitution.
Vijayakala is dissatisfied
Meanwhile, Maheswaran told a function in Jaffna yesterday (19) that she was dissatisfied over the investigations.
She claimed that she only described how the northern province existed under the LTTE in the past and that she did not say anything against the state.
Maheswaran blamed the media, accusing it of distorting what she said, and charged that Sinhala Buddhist forces had influenced to initiate an investigation against her despite her having tendered an apology.
