Buddhasasana Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera has taken measures to ban several dramas which were scheduled to be staged by the National Reconciliation Bureau with the approval of the Performance Board.
According to the General Secretary of the Sinhala Ravaya Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thera, this ban was initiated based on a request made to the Buddhasasana Minister by him.
When ‘Hiru’ Radio had inquired from the Minister, he had said that the IG and the Ministry Secretary had been notified of this ban.
Grave insult to Buddhism
Meanwhile, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera said that the series of radio dramas scheduled to be aired by the National Reconciliation Bureau is in violation of the core values of Buddhism.
Addressing a press briefing in Embilipitiya the Thera noted that this series of dramas by the National Reconciliation Bureau which is under former President Chandrika Kumaratunge, insults and distorts Buddhism.
He said that this series of dramas has been named ‘Kane Pahara’ (slap), adding that even the introduction of the drama on the National Reconciliation Bureau web site includes statements which are insulting Buddhism.
