The Madurankuliya tourism information and facility centre which was declared open around one year ago is currently abandoned without making any use of it.
This facility was constructed at a cost of around Rs. 50 million by the Economic Development Ministry during the previous regime.
This facility built on the recommendations of the Puttalam Pradeshiya Sabha belongs to the Wayamba Development Authority under the Wayamba Provincial Council.
This facility includes stalls, accommodation facilities, sanitary facilities and many other facilities.
The purpose of building this facility was to provide facilities for tourists who visit Kalpitiya, Wilpattu and the Northern region of the country.
This facility also includes electricity and water and this facility was declared open on March 14, 2017 by the Wayamba Province Chief Minister Dharmasiri Dassanayake and former Deputy Tourism Minister Arundika Fernando.
Upon inquiry it was revealed that certain constructions of the facility had not been completed due to the non- payment of dues to the construction company.
However, when inquired about the state of this facility, the Puttalam District Secretary N.H.M. Chirtananda said he could not comment on it as this facility comes under the Wayamba Provincial Council.
The Wayamba Chief Minister was also not available for comment as he is currently overseas.
