Details about many hideous corrupt activities which had been taking place in the Jayanthi Child development center in Payagala which comes under the supervision of the All Island Buddhist Association, were revealed at the Kalutara Court yesterday (13).
When the police informed the Kalutara Additional magistrate Ms. Ayesha Abdeen about the severe child abuse cases which had taken place in this children's home, it was also revealed that the administration of this home had even robbed the funds given to them by local and international charity organizations and people.
Accordingly, magistrate ordered to temporarily shut down the Jayanthi Child development center in Payagala and to transfer the 24 children who were living in it to other children's homes.
The reason was said to be the insecure status of the children's home. It was revealed that 8 boys in the place have been sexually abused and 4 more had fled the home.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer told Sri Lanka Mirror that although probation officers had been aware of the pathetic situation of this children's home, they had been afraid of complaining them as the center was run by the All Island Buddhist Association.
