The even was held at the Tharangani Hall of the National Film Corporation.
Distinguished guests including Chinese ambassador - Mr. Cheng Xueyuan, Working Director of the NFC - Mr. Rohan Weliwita and the Secretary of the ministry of Buddhasasana, Cultural and Religious Affairs - Mr. Bandula Harishchandra, Culture counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka - Mr. Liu Dong, embassy officials and journalists attended the launch.
Speaking, Mr. Cheng Xueyuan said : "Watching a good film has become an important part of the daily lives of the Chinese people.
Noting that People-to-people exchanges is a popular basis to promote bilateral relations, ambassador added, that this film festival will "definitely enhance mutual understanding between our two peoples, consolidate the time-testing friendship in our two nations and bring the hearts and souls of our two peoples even closer."
The ambassador further added that the embassy would continue to work further to promote professional and technical exchanges and cooperation in the film field between the two countries.
Addressing the event, Mr. Rohan Weliwita thanked the Chinese embassy for brining down Chinese cinematic creations to Sri Lanka providing the local cinema fans an opportunity to view them for free.
The festival kicked off with a screening of the sci-fi hit - The Wandering Earth.

The festival, marking the Chinese New Year, will end on Jan. 26 and will be screened free at the Tharangani Hall.
