Hayleys change labels of expired pesticides

Hayleys Agro Chemical, one of the leading multinational companies that import pesticides into the country, has changed labels of an expired consignment and released it to the market.

The Consumer Affairs Authority raided the warehouse of the company at Brahmanagama yesterday (July 12) and found the consignment.

CAA officials caught the company employees in the act of repacking the pesticides that had expired in 2008, with new labels mentioning the expiry date as 2012.

Around 100,000 such packets of pesticide, worth Rs. five million, n have been seized.

According to reports, the company had already released a much higher number of packets to the market.

Hayleys Agro Chemical is the marketer of the banned ‘powerator’ and ‘acurator’ pesticides, both found to contain arsenic.
