If coconuts are overpriced call - 1977

The Consumer Affairs Authority during recent raids in Colombo and suburbs, had prosecuted over 400 errant traders for selling coconuts above the stipulated price.

According to the CAA, the government imposed a maximum retail price of Rs. 75 for coconuts in a bid to control the price hike by some traders.

The raids were conducted to apprehend traders who were still engaged in selling coconuts at higher prices.

Meanwhile, complaints regarding high priced coconuts could be made to the hotline 1977.

The CAA had also prosecuted over 2,000 traders who had flouted the consumer laws.
