‘Garbage’ protestors to be arrested without a warrant Featured

Garbage disposal by local government institutions has been declared an essential service by gazette extraordinary that has been issued on the instructions of president Maithripala Sirisena.

Effective from midnight yesterday (20), it allows the arrest, without a warrant, of those who protest against garbage disposal in order to gain political advantage by using the issue of the Meethotamulla waste dump collapse.

Issued in accordance with clause 17 of the Public Security Ordinance, the gazette refers to removal, collection, transportation, temporary storage, separation, disposal and all other activities relating to garbage by LG bodies.
